Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
Volunteers are needed to answer the hotlines, accompany rape survivors to hospitals, and assist at health fair. In providing services to the survivors of sexual assault, the Rosa Parks Sexual Assault Crisis Center is a catalyst for the empowerment of women engaged in the struggle against sexual violence. The center is the agent for social change in much the same way as its namesake, Mrs. Rosa Parks. Her courageousness in sparking the Civil Rights Movement fuels our determination and perseverance to eradicate sexual violence from women lifes. The Rosa Parks Center services South Central Los Angeles, Inglewood, Lennox, Harthorne, and Gardena which have been identified as having the highest reported cases of sexual assault in the state. We stand committed to reducing those statistics and to serving as a voice for the survivor of sexual violence. We ensure that those who seek out services will be treated with dignity and respect. The Rosa Parks Sexual Assault Crisis Center is a project of the Martin Luther King Legacy Association, the non-profit social service arm of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles. It is funded by the state office of Criminal Justice Planning Committee and private local donations. Rosa Parks Center opened in December of 1984 and was the first center to provide crisis intervention services to all women (primarily of color) and residents of South Central Los Angeles. Contact Dr. Rhonda Brinkley-Ke for more information.
